We invite you to apply for the 2018 Ford Scholars and Undergraduate Research Summer Institute (URSI) at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York. All University of Puerto Rico students continuing in Fall 2018 are eligible to apply at this website:
Vassar College is a small, liberal arts college located in the beautiful Hudson Valley, 1.5 hours north of New York City. The Ford Program and URSI are immersive summer research programs in which students conduct original hands-on research in the social sciences and humanities (Ford) and the sciences (URSI) under the direction of a Vassar faculty mentor. Each summer, approximately 80 Vassar students and 50 faculty participate in these programs.
The Ford program will run for 8 weeks between May 29th – July 20th. URSI will run for 9.5 weeks: May 30th – August 3rd, 2018. Ford and URSI student fellows will receive a $3200 or $3800 stipend respectively for this full-time position, and on-campus housing along with 2 meals per day at our on-campus dining facility will be included. Travel to and from Vassar will also be included.
Be sure to check the URSI project descriptions (https://ursi.vassar.edu/projects/) or Ford project descriptions (https://ford.vassar.edu/projects/) to see if any projects sound of interest to you. Please note that only a subset of projects are available for UPR students; available projects are indicated by an asterisk. In the application, you will be asked to select up to two possible projects. You will only be considered for the projects you select.
All applications must be submitted by 5:00 pm EST on March 20th. All selected applicants will be notified of their status by email on April 3rd, 2018. Students who are offered a position must accept or decline by April 9th, 2018.
