Our campus has the Security and Risk Management Office. Security guards patrol the campus day and night, and there is a 24-hour telephone service. All accesses to campus and parking lots have surveillance. The campus has a mini bus service that runs between the parking lots and circulates around the entire campus. The service is free for students.<\/p>\n\n

Our institution complies with federal regulations and the provisions in Title IX of the Education Amendment of 1972 and the Jeanne Clery Act.               There are 91<\/strong> emergency telephones<\/strong> strategically placed in buildings and open areas throughout the R\u00edo Piedras campus. These can be used to call for assistance if you witness or are the victim of a crime.<\/p>

              In case of an emergency, these telephones will connect you directly to the Security and Risk Management (DSMR) officer on call. The officer is responsible for immediately activating the unit’s security protocol for emergency requests.<\/p>

              We are all responsible for Campus safety. To avoid becoming the victim of a crime, we recommend the following:<\/p>

              • Avoid walking alone at night through shortcuts, dark or solitary areas and parking lots. When alone, always be aware of your surroundings.<\/li>
              • Do not leave your car or house keys in visible or public places.<\/li>
              • Keep your car or dorm keys on hand.<\/li>
              • Survey your surroundings before stepping into your car or home.<\/li>
              • When entering or leaving your university residence, make sure to lock the door properly.<\/li>
              • Never open the door to strangers.<\/li>
              • Never leave your personal belongings unattended. These include purses, computers, calculators, cellphones, and valuable items, among others.<\/span><\/li>
              • Park your vehicle in well-lit areas.<\/span><\/li>
              • Park your vehicle in well-lit areas.<\/li>
              • Always lock your car and do not leave valuable items visible in the vehicle.<\/li>
              • Never allow a stranger in your car.<\/li>
              • Make sure to carry a whistle in your hand and use it if you perceive that someone is following you or intends to harm you.<\/li>
              • If you ride a bicycle or a motorcycle, secure it with a chain while parked.<\/li>
              • We recommend that you use public campus-provided transportation, between 6:30 a.m. and 2:00 a.m.<\/li>
              • Stay alert. If you suspect that you are being followed, run in the opposite direction, to a more secure or crowded area.<\/li>
              • If you notice suspicious people or incidents, immediately inform a Security and Risk Management Division officer.<\/li>
