Air Force ROTC Course Overview

The Air Force ROTC (AFROTC) program is a four-year leadership development program designed to prepare students for service as officers in the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. Each year builds upon the last, equipping students with the knowledge, skills, and leadership experience necessary for a successful military career.

Freshman Year: AS 100 – Introduction to the U.S. Air Force

  • Course Code: 3001-001 and 3001-002
  • Credits: 2 (1 hour per week)
  • Overview: Introduces students to the Department of the Air Force (DAF) culture, history, and core values. The focus is on the expectations and professionalism required in the Air and Space Forces.

Sophomore Year: AS 200 – Team and Leadership Fundamentals

  • Course Code: 3011-001 and 3011-002
  • Credits: 2 (1 hour per week)
  • Overview: Covers the evolution of the U.S. Air Force, emphasizing leadership development and teamwork. Prepares students for the challenges of field training.

Junior Year: AS 300 – Leading People and Effective Communication

  • Course Code: 4001-001 and 4002-001
  • Credits: 4 (3 hours per week)
  • Overview: Builds upon leadership principles learned in previous years. Students refine their leadership and communication skills while applying them in a structured environment. Special emphasis is placed on effective leadership techniques, communication, and problem-solving.

Senior Year: AS 400 – National Security & Active-Duty Preparation

  • Course Code: 4011-001 and 4012-001
  • Credits: 4 (3 hours per week)
  • Overview: Prepares students for their transition to active duty by providing an in-depth understanding of national security, military professionalism, and strategic policy considerations. Topics include global security challenges, military ethics, and the responsibilities of officers in a rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
