Visita de la profesora Marcia Douglas
El Departamento de Inglés, de la Facultad de Humanidades auspicia la visita de la profesora Marcia Douglas, quien visitará el Recinto de Río Piedras del 27 al 29 de octubre de 2016. Ofrecerá las siguientes charlas:
Jueves, 27 de octubre, de 4:30-7:00 p.m en el Lewis Richardson Seminar Room (Pedreira 108): “Word, Sound and Power: The Marvellous Equations of the Dread”. Habrá lectura y discusión de su nueva novela y el uso del sonido en la narrativa.
Viernes, 28 de octubre, de 4:30-7:00 p.m en el Lewis Richardson Seminar Room (Pedreira 108): “I Say All This to Say That: Where Words Come From.” Habrá lectura de la novela Notes from a Writer’s Book of Cures and Spells, así como discusión del proceso creativo, el uso de las artes visuales en la narrativa y de las muñecas artesanales en su relación con la obra.
Sábado, 29 de octubre, de 9:30-12:30 p.m en el Lewis Richardson Seminar Room (Pedreira 108): “Writing the Magic of Everyday”. Habrá un seminario de escritura creativa abierto a todos aquellos estudiantes interesados, así como a los profesores.
Bio/Marcia Douglas
Marcia Douglas is the author of the novels, Madam Fate, Notes from a Writer’s Book of Cures and Spells and The Marvellous Equations of the Dread, as well as a poetry collection, Electricity Comes to Cocoa Bottom. Her work has appeared in journals and anthologies internationally, including Edexcel Anthology for English Language/London Examinations IGCSE, The Oxford Book of Caribbean Verse, The Forward Book of Poetry, Kingston Noir, Jubilation! 50 Years of Jamaican Poetry, Mojo: Conjure Stories, Whispers from Under the Cotton Tree Root: Caribbean Fabulist Fiction, Caribbean Erotic: Poetry, Prose, Essays, The Art of Friction: Where (Non) Fictions Come Together and Home: An Imagined Landscape. Her awards include an NEA Fellowship, and a U.K. Poetry Book Society Recommendation. In addition to writing, she performs a one-woman show, “Natural Herstory,” and is an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where she teaches creative writing and Caribbean literature.
