About Us

The University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras Campus is the oldest and largest higher learning institution in the Caribbean. Founded in 1903, the Río Piedras Campus stands out for its academic excellence, its diverse academic offerings, and its vibrant cultural and sports activity.

Our campus is the leading higher education research center in Puerto Rico. It houses sophisticated laboratories equipped with exclusive resources, important research centers, and a library system that includes over 30 libraries, most of them specialized. The Río Piedras Campus is the only institution on the island certified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a Doctoral Research-Intensive University.

The Río Piedras Campus offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, as well as professional certificates in fields such as Architecture, Business Administration, Communication, Education, General Studies, Humanities, Information Sciences and Technology, Law, Natural Sciences, and Planning. The university community reflects diversity, both in the student population and faculty, as evidenced by our efforts to attract foreign students to our academic programs as either international or exchange students.

Our institution is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and by the Puerto Rico Council on Higher Education. Over 25 of our programs are accredited by professional agencies and organizations that monitor the best educational practices.
